Artist Choice Blog

I chose the Holocaust Memorial by George Segal. I like this piece, and especially the expression and posture the man has. I feel a sense of hopelessness, and the quote "To love means loving the unlovable. To forgive means pardoning the unpardonable. Faith means believing the unbelievable. Hope means hoping when everything seems hopeless." by Gilbert K. Chesterton

  1. Interesting juxtaposition between your choice of artist and your chosen quote. How do you begin to employ the realistic, yet universal aesthetic choices made by Segal in presenting the emotion and the moral ideals of your quote? Unpack the quote further - what does it mean to you? How does this person present himself - consider the posture. How does the viewer begin to see this incredible depth of human morality within the gesture and aesthetic details of your sculpture?
